The Exchange is a Grade II listed former bank in Birmingham’s Centenary Square, now reimagined by the University of Birmingham as a standalone public building and events space. As the University prepared to open the building as a new hub for research, teaching and community engagement, it needed clear and effective wayfinding and signage.

Working alongside the project managers, Galliford Try, during the refurbishment, I created a complete wayfinding scheme comprising directional, directory and floorplan map signage.

The system was designed to stand apart from the University’s existing wayfinding style, instead taking cues from The Exchange’s unique and colourful new brand identity to create a distinctive visual language for the building.
